From first idea to final form

Every commissioned piece develops through conversation, material exploration and making. The process allows the idea to evolve in response to the client, the material and the intended form.

01 — THE CONVERSATION

We begin by understanding the piece you have in mind — its purpose, proportions, materials, references and the way you imagine living with it.

This is also where we consider the appropriate Maison Métisse technique or approach for the project.

02 — THE PROPOSAL

Following the initial conversation, we develop a proposal outlining the creative direction, materials, technique, dimensions, estimated timeline and investment.

Once the proposal is confirmed, the piece moves into development.

03 — DEVELOPMENT

Material, colour, structure and form are explored together.

Depending on the piece, development may include textile studies, colour tests, woven samples and toiles to explore proportion, construction and movement before the final piece is made.

For Habi-Couture commissions, the garment is developed directly on the loom, allowing textile and form to emerge together.

04 — MAKING

Once the direction is resolved, the piece enters production within the Maison.

Weaving, dyeing, construction and finishing take place according to the requirements of the work, with details reviewed throughout the process.

05 — FINAL FORM

The completed piece is carefully reviewed, finished and prepared for delivery.

Where appropriate, the final piece is accompanied by information about its materials, technique and making.
